The National Puerto Rican Day Parade was established to create the national awareness and appreciation of Puerto Rican culture and its contribution to the society of the United States. Our mission is to enhance the self-esteem of our community, in order to advance the social, economic, and political well being of Puerto Ricans throughout the nation.
The Educational/Leadership Project of the National Puerto Rican Day Parade, Inc. was a dream of Dr. Ramón S. Vélez, Sr. founder of the parade's national concept. His dream was to prepare our Puerto Rican youth to assume leadership roles in our society and to recognize educational leaders and business leaders who provide excellence in educational endeavors.
The Board of Directors of the National Puerto Rican Day Parade, Inc. continued the vision with the collaboration of corporate sponsors to provide scholarships to High School graduates who have been accepted into higher education institutions and college students from the City University of The City of New York (CUNY).
Dr. Aida Rosa has been coordinating the educational leadership project for past 17 years.
